Co-founders and co-directors Christopher Kofi Ametornyo and Godwin Kaba Sabore bring decades of experience dancing and drumming with the nationally and world renowned Ghana Dance Ensemble. They are committed to introducing children to Ghana’s Indigenous traditional drumming and dancing in order to appreciate and preserve Ghana’ cultural heritage.


Christopher Kofi Ametornyo

Photograph of Kofi Christopher Ametornyo is a dance artist from the Ghana Dance Ensemble of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana-Legon. Christopher has been with the Ensemble for more than 21 years and received his professional training there. He now acts as the principal dancer, soloist, and stage manager of the Ghana Dance Ensemble, and serves as a liaison between the Ensemble and the Institute of African Studies.

In addition to dancing, Christopher is a choreographer and a drummer. He has worked with some of the most distinguished choreographers in Ghana and beyond. He also helps choreograph some of the Ensemble's works. Through his hard work and determination, Christopher was awarded the best dancer by the Ghana Dance Ensemble in 2012. He was chosen to be a member of the team that choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies for the Africa Women Cup of Nations competition staged in Ghana in 2018. Some of his memorable performances include the 2016 inaugural ceremony of the current president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, ceremonies for the former president John Ajecdu Kulfour, and ceremonies for visits to Ghana by the presidents of Nigeria and other countries.

Godwin Kaba Sabore

Godwin Kwamla Sabore is a drum maker and a former dance artist from the Ghana Dance Ensemble of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana-Legon. Godwin started drum making at the age of 13, and then developed an interest in drumming and dancing. In 1996 he joined the Amamremba dance group in Madina, and then moved to the Ghana Dance Ensemble in 2001. Godwin has also worked with Indigenous choreographers from around the world. Some of his memorable performances includes the installation of Ghanaian President J. H. Kufour in 2005, the opening and closing ceremonies of the African Cup of Nations in Ghana in 2008, and other state functions in Ghana.
